First winter plumage. Scapulars show pinkish-purple tint.
Observation details
First winter plumage. Bold white tips to juvenile wing coverts and tertials, contrasting with grey first winter scapulars and mantle. In certain lights with the sun shining, pinkish-purple tints were visible on the upperparts feathers. Plump shorebird with orange legs and orange base to bill.
