Observation details
Foraging in eucalyptuses along the creek. Photographed only poorly, but seen decently well: a medium-sized songbird that was grayish-yellow overall, with brightest yellow around the undertail coverts and vent, and with a sturdy, pale orange-ish bill. Definitely a Western Tanager, rather than the less likely Summer (or Scarlet); in addition to the pale orange-ish bill, it had wing-bars on its grayish wings. Silent. Getting late; perhaps this bird is planning to overwinter in the area. At least a couple individuals spent last winter on the Stanford campus.
