Black Noddy on nest with recently hatched young.
Observation details
The most abundant marine bird species present, with a total island pop. est. of 7000-10000 pairs, and outnumbering Brown Noddy at least 20:1. Found most commonly in loosely scattered colonies building nests in trees generally 4m in height or more. Commonly used species include Terminalia catapa and Erythrina variegata. The vast majority of individuals were paired and incubating eggs with 5-10% of nests containing recently hatched young. This species may suffer considerable depredation of nests by Micronesian Starlings.
