Observation details
One was present with commoner Swallow species at the reservoir. The bird initially drew attention to itself by landing on the shoreline and short grass adjacent. Once observed it was clearly apparent the amount of rufous/orange colour in the face in comparison to the Southern Rough-winged Swallow it was associating with. The orange on the face extended above the bill but stopped short of the cap, which was a dull brown colour. The orange face was separated by a dark loral stripe between the bill and the eye. When the bird took flight it clearly had a pale belly and vent, although the breast still had some of the orange colour that features on the face. To obtain better views playback was used to which the bird responded strongly, even singing in response.
