Observation details
Flying into stiff South wind, didn't hear any vocalizations. Larger phalarope, long-winged. Did not appear as small and flitty as a RNPH, slightly slower wingbeats. Gray back, prominent wing stripes, buffy wash to face visible as bird flew by. Too distant/fast to pick up on bill size. Flying from North to South along Cook Inlet shoreline, then went to river mouth. We tried but could not relocate it along river. Initially sighted with binoculars, but was able to follow with scope for about 10-12 seconds. Very late bird for location, unprecedented this late in season.
