Media notes
Bird heard but not seen. Estimated 70 feet away on other side of dense tree foliage. I saw a White-eyed Vireo in the immediate area, and a Prothonotary Warbler was singing very nearby. Around 5 pm, I heard two or three song bouts that sounded like Warbling Vireo. I turned on my camera and wondered whether either House Finch or Painted Bunting was a more likely ID. I recorded video (and audio) with my camera, capturing three song bouts during 16 seconds. The audio (submitted in uncompressed WAV format) includes a repeat of the 16 seconds but with iMovie 10 noise-reduction applied, which helps listeners hear the songs but reduces the quality of the high notes. The audio includes three bouts of what I think are Prothonotary Warbler song bouts, each sounding like hissing "see-see-see" notes. The visual component of the video (not submitted) actually shows a White-eyed Vireo briefly foraging in the direction of the singing Warbling Vireo. File name includes date, time, and coordinates: WAVI_FL_WarblingVireo_20160416_1711_30.3989-86.5917.wav
Observation details
Rare bird in Florida. Heard and recorded but not seen. Added to check-list about 5 days after the observation. Estimated 70 feet away on other side of dense tree foliage. Around 5 pm, I heard two or three song bouts that sounded like Warbling Vireo. I turned on my camera and wondered whether either House Finch or Painted Bunting was a more likely ID. I recording video (and audio) with my camera, capturing three song bouts during 16 seconds. The audio submitted to this check-list includes a repeat of the 16 seconds but with noise-reduction applied, which clarifies the basic structure of the song bouts but reduces the quality of their high notes.
