Observation details
Self-found. YRW Garden. Vocal, giving typical radde's call. Spent nearly the entirety of its time in a small patch of sycamores where it showed exceptionally well, although could vanish for long periods remaining motionless on branches. Calling was given in bouts of 10 or so calls, often following flight, and followed by long periods without vocalisation. Tail-pumping action reminiscent of chiffchaff noted. Whitish sub-orbital ring. Cap and lores dark, strong pale super, warmer at front. Upperparts a relatively warm olive brown, underparts paler, undertail coverts a warm rusty caramel colour. Legs obvious and rather orange looking in the field, with a large size giving the bird a rail-like appearance at times. Tail-tips sharply pointed indicating 1cy bird. 2nd county and 24th Irish record
