Observation details
Gulls (8) were in one distant and heavily scrutinized flock. At rest on the water the HEGU's appeared quite large with light mantle color. A few of the adults appeared to have streaked hoods, light eyes and smudgy markings around the eye. Bills appeared large and thick, bright yellow, and with red gonydeal spot (seen on several birds, 3-4). Big blocky heads. One juv (first cycle) present associating closely with the HEGUs, was very dark, uniform dark body, dark outer primaries and lighter inner primaries, heavily patterned rump with dark tail, bill seemed mostly dark with paler pinikish base. In flight adults had thick wings, limited black in wing tips with gray mantle color extending into the wingtip on several primaries. Black of wingtip not sharply delineated.
