Observation details
Fairly large buteo flew over head in the area of 2 red-tailed hawks. This bird appeared slightly smaller, and it was mobbed by one of the red-tails until it flew further up the canyon. Very dark, streaked body and wing linings with a very lightly banded tail. Dark patagial bar is present, but not striking due to dark wing linings. dark, streaked throat. From above in flight, the bird showed a consistently dark mantle, head, and tail, with some faint barring on the flight feathers. Appears to be a very dark juv. Red-tailed.
