Observation details
Both pictured birds appear to be Baird's between non-breeding and breeding plumage. Siblley's shows non-breeding birds ending in April and breeding plumaged birds starting in April. Long wings, overall gray-brown color. Some whiteness in side and a darker cap developing on the ML27272101 imaged bird. The ML27272601 bird is in non-breeding plumage. Note the long, tapering, straight bill on both birds. Both of these "Roadbirds" were feeding along a gravel road in the Fisheries Science with one or two Lark Sparrows (6.5" per Sibley's). The Baird's (7.5" per Sibley's) were easily larger than the Sparrows. Per Sibley's, Western (6.5") and Semipalmated (6.25") Sandpipers would be about the same size as the Sparrows.
