Observation details
Came in for a bath to the sewage treatment plant water outflow in Sonoita Creek just downstream from the Paton Center. I got great looks through spotting scope. Was with Chipping Sparrows from which it differed in having pale lores, a whitish median crown stripe, and brownish rather than gray rump. Nape sides had somewhat contrasting smooth unstreaked gray patch, ruling out Brewer's Sparrow. This individual had a buffy wash in a narrow band across its chest with a few short streaks on the side, remnants of juvenile plumage. Better photos in Eric Kallen's checklist.
