Observation details
****Supa sick, First observed when I almost walked right into flock of snowy plovers then swung wide out of the way to not freak them out then sat to chill on a log and noticed a much bigger yet small plover, much taller and larger than Snowy Plovers around it. Baise golden coloring throughout body and blackish wingtips. Pale gray legs and black speck just behind pale cinnamon lores. Speckled crown with black eye and extensive whitish throat. The bird stayed in with the Snowy Plover flock for an hour until I waited for my dad to come and continued to stay after we left. Seems like a higher presence than regular this year in Southern California, just by eBird stalking reports. Soft facial expression and peaceful spirited, a beautiful bird that we studied for over 45 minutes. This beach seems to get most vagrant shorebirds because it’s perfectly inbetween 2 beaches so it doesn’t get the crowds some of the other beaches have, not a single person in an hour of sitting and dogs and motor vehicles are all banned from beach. What an amazing stretch and haven for Migrant shorebirds. 3rd county record on eBird for Mendocino. Many photos will be posted soon.
