Observation details
A small, slender, long-tailed sparrow, noticeably lighter and gray in general coloration than the nearby Swamp Sparrows. Streaks on the back, underparts were clean. The face pattern was complex, with a finely streaked crown broken by a relatively thick stripe down the middle of the crown; the supercilium was rather broad and pale tanish; The eye had a complete white eye ring; the lores were pale (the first field mark that tipped me off that this could be a Clay-colored, seen from the observation deck); the pale throat was broken by a darker buffy mustache-stripe. The nape was gray, with a few fine streaks at the back of the nape. Only the third parish record (in eBird), but second this month.
