Observation details
Golden-tailed Woodpeckers (Campethera abingoni) are found in thornveld, savanna, woodland and riverine forest. Golden-tailed Woodpeckers are insectivores, mainly eating arboreal ants. This male Golden-tailed Woodpecker was probing the trunk of a large Jackalberry tree (Diospyros mespiliformis) in the grounds of the Berg-en-Dal Restcamp in southern Kruger National Park.
