Observation details
We spent almost an hour on one of these birds (The one with audio, and photos by Kent Fiala), trying to make it into a Black-billed which had been reported here (probably incorrectly). It was very difficult to observe due to overcast conditions including back lighting against a bright overcast sky, and rain. It appeared to have a black bill and it did have some reddish in the wings. Both of these characteristics could be consistent with juvenile of either species. I could never get a satisfactory view of the tail underside Throughout the whole time of observation it continually repeated a vocalization that I had never heard before, and which I recorded. The recordings are very similar but not identical to recordings of Black-billed. However I have found a single recording of juvenile Yellow-billed in Macaulay that is identical to our bird: Macaulay ML180827
