Observation details
Continuing rarity (probably returning individual) reported by Feenstra on Tuesday. Seen at 8 am by looking west over the creek, from about the crest of the rise just south of the Secret Bridge. It flew in from the south, perched on a prominent bare branch of a eucalyptus (one to the right, same perch as photographed by Becky yesterday). It forayed out once in a tight circle and returned to same perch. No tail movement at all, vertical posture. Peaked crown, gray Contopus (without distinct breast markings as for Olive-sided, and bulkier). Large tilted up bill. Larger than adjacent Black Phoebe. Didn't hear it then. When I returned with scope from car not even 10 minutes later it was gone. Later on the Bartons were there and thought they heard it. I may have heard the long "peee" call, will check if recording worked. Distant photos in gray light. Video at https://flic.kr/p/2jR24rP County Lifer #398!
