Observation details
Continuing rarity found by Michael Young. State's sixth record? Roughly same size as nearby PESA. Overall structure like a skinny ʻŪlili. Brownish-gray on upperparts, back, neck, and head. Small white speckles on back and upper-parts. White belly. Breast and part of neck washed with faint brownish-gray streaking. Noticeable white ring around eye that forms a slight supercilim, however supercilium only extends from the eye towards the bill. Thin bill roughly same length as head w/darker tip that fades into a pale gray base. Greenish-yellow legs, not as brightly colored as yellowlegs or tattler. Occasionally bobbed body up and down. Feeding in the submerged vegetation where the Ruff and Lesser Yellowlegs were a few weeks ago. Seemed shy and timid. Almost couldn't find it at first! Photos posted by others show a distinctive tail pattern with a dark bar that runs straight down the center of the white fan-like tail. I didn't see the full tail, but from what I did see, the tail appeared to have been completely barred. Thanks to Michael for emailing me! This was a life bird, and a very cool one at that.
