Observation details
When first seen I thought it was a flicker based on size and posture in profile. Then it sallied out to flycatch and I noticed no white rump. It continued flycatching from atop a tall snag in a large clearing near the north entrance to Nehalem State Park. Distant photos to follow. Apparent adult: pink underparts and gray neck well seen through 20x scope at about 80 meters, eliminating Acorn Woodpecker. Unmistakable! Seen at 1215 or so, gone 20 minutes later, then returned by 3:15 to same tree.
