Media notes
I had first mistaken this call for Jungle Bushquail (also found in the same habitat) till I saw that it was being made by Jungle Prinia. Subsequently I have often heard this call (usually late monsoon months) made by the bird when it is sitting in dense thickets or foliage. I assume its probably associated with nesting, used either to communicate with the mate or young, or to warn away other individuals of the same species or intruders in general.
Observation details
The area resounded with their calls and quite a few individuals were observed. Conservative estimate of individuals seen.
