Observation details
We discovered two adults bringing food to a nest hole, watched them for 30 minutes. I wasn't expecting to find this species at Arroyo Frio; I have only seen them in Colima. According to Dr. Fernando Villasenor Gomez, this is a rare sighting for interior Michoacán. I went back on Friday April 8 and there was NO activity at the nesting site; we waiting 40 minutes and played a tape to see if they were still around. No such luck. Either the young fledged or the adults abandoned the nest. When I initially found them, I heard no chick noise nor did they pop their heads out, so I thought the chicks were very young and made plans to come back every couple of days.
