Observation details
Prolonged scope views of an adult soaring roughly about a mile away from the overlook. Large accipiter, especially when seen directly alongside a soaring Sharp-shinned Hawk which it absolutely dwarfed. Looked powerful with large head, broad body and 'hips', ample tail and broad based but fairly pointed wings. All in all, pretty unique when soaring. Steel gray above with dark head and broad supercilium visible even at range through the scope. Pics at this range were a little ambitious but I think I have one record shot that conveys the basic shape and color fields of an adult Goshawk. This could be the only satisfactory observation that I have of a Northern Goshawk in Franklin County where is appears (to me) to be extremely rare.
