Observation details
Long-staying. This bird was originally reported as Black-Chinned Hummingbird. Traits pointing to Costa’s (courtesy of Sheri L. Williamson, author of "Hummingbirds of North America"): The short bill, wings, and tail and 'Adam's apple' are the 'jizz' field marks, and the inner primary shapes confirm. The primary molt is also more advanced than it should be for Black-chinned, which occasionally undergo inner primary molt during fall migration but usually P1-5 only.
