Observation details
Amazing looks at one calling and perched very close right above us at the cattle guard to rustler park. Even got pics. Hear calling and sounded far away so we drove down there but didn’t find it. We drove back and heard it again in a grove of ponderosa just by the road. I played the call and it responded and we saw it fly to the big ponderosa right by the road. I saw it through a little hole between leaves and branches and just had an incredulous moment when I realized holy smokes I’m looking at my lifer Flamm owl! It flew quickly closer towards the main trunk and kept calling and within a minute I had it in the spotlight just 15 feet away right in the open. Low hoot repeated. Smaller owl a little smaller than screech owl no ears gray plumage with a little orange dark eyes eye shine is a little purplish.
