Observation details
This was a big group of terns on a rock island looking west from the tent camping area at Rocky Creek. I walked down the beach to get as close as possible and have several photos to post. The birds were still distant, though. I counted 66 in a photo but it is closely cropped some and some shapes are indeterminate. I subtracted the one Black Tern that I saw well. And there were 4 gulls. The one that even drew my attention to the island was the huge gull, which I determined was a Herring. I actually thought the birds might be Franklin’s Gulls before I took a look in the scope. The number on the island fluctuated as some would leave to go fishing. As I scoped them I was looking for possible Common Terns. I don't have much experience with those however, so it is possible there were some. The birds in flight were Forster's.
