Observation details

A new species for the farm eBird list. A single spinetail was found at -15.9425316, -47.9057356 but it was silent. Playback using all three similar species (Sooty-fronted, Pale-breasted and Cinereous-breasted, tried in that order) in this area brought a vocal response to Cinereous-breasted and brought the bird out into better light. The call uttered from the bird was a loud trill and always immedately in response to the playback of Cinereous-breasted, seemingly confirming the indentity. Further down the track at -15.941016, -47.903133 another or the same bird was recorded, uttering the same trill like call confirming it as this species. Then further down the track again at -15.937833, -47.900160 I found a pair of this species already vocalising prior to my arrival. These birds showed occasionally and were both adults, revealing a dark grey breast with black throat patch, dark mantle contrasting to chestnut wings. Their singing prompted a third bird to sing from the opposite side of the road to this pair, bringing the total number of birds recorded up to five.
