Observation details
Originally identified as a Connecticut Warbler. The bird appeared large for a warbler and remained near or on the ground and was observed walking among and below ferns; I did not observe the bird hop. I also believed the bird had a complete eye ring and whitish throat. Undertail coverts appeared long. Upon review of photos, several field marks seem to point to Mourning rather than Connecticut: the front of the eye-ring looks to be broken, supra-loral line appears to be light in certain photographs, spots on front may be black and start of a bib, and undertail coverts look within the range of Mourning. After consulting with several experts, the overwhelming consensus is Mourning. While the bird was observed walking and certain photos show plumage characteristics that seem good for CONW, the majority of field marks noted above seem to indicate Mourning.
