NOTES: (Range Status: Migration. Breeding Status: Unknown.) On small mud flat in artificial marsh 20 km from shore of Gulf of Mexico, a flock of 35 Sanderlings on migration? feeding and showing some aggression for 2-3 days. [Identification changed from Sanderling to mixed species flock, consisting of mostly Semipalmated Sandpiper and Western Sandpiper, per comments from Michael O'Brien -3Jan2010 JHB.] [This is clearly conversational "twittering" or "chattering" by a flock of some small shorebird species, but I cannot be certain that any of these calls are those of Calidris alba. I cannot hear any examples here of the standard "wick" call of this species, and at least some of these calls sound like those of C. pusilla and C. minutilla. Quality unchanged (2) - CAM - 22 February 2005]. Other Behaviors: Establish Flock Contact. Habitat: Mudflat.
