Observation details
Rainbow Bee-eaters (Merops ornatus) breeding residents in northern Australia and summer breeding migrants in southern Australia. This adult bird was inspecting a hole in a sandy bank – most likely its nest site in the Chinamans Pool Nature Reserve on the edge of the mostly dry Gascoyne River at Carnarvon, Western Australia. After taking off it landed on a barbed wire fence nearby.
