Observation details
Grey-crowned Babblers (Pomatostomus temporalis) are Australia’s largest Babbler and are found in semi-arid and northern parts of the continent. These birds belong to the western race rubeculus that is characterised by its reddish breast. A nest was nearby high in the branches of a River Red Gum (Eucalyptus camaldulensis), growing on the bank of the mostly dry Gascoyne River at Carnarvon in Western Australia. Grey-crowned Babblers are restless, calling and moving constantly. After spending time in the trees, three Babblers descended to and began feeding on a small patch of lawn in Rotary Park, and on mostly bare ground nearby.
