Observation details
An adult male hanging tight in a grove of subalpine firs about 175 ft. west of the Fraser "River" (which is barely a creek here) and just south of the Nystrom Lane free parking area. Of interest is that the bird was constantly pecking, rather than bark-flaking. All the trees in the grove seemed diseased, and maybe the bark was particularly soft. I never heard any vocalizations from the bird, but it constantly gave sonations. See media (audio, video, photos) below.
