Media notes
Showing yellow orbital ring but no white over the gape
Observation details
Late; photo attached. Given the date, also considered Common Ringed Plover, especially because webbing was apparently absent between the inner toes on the left foot. However, webbing was present between the inner toes of the right foot as well as fairly extensive between both pairs of outer toes. Yellow orbital ring should be diagnostic for juvenile SEPL (can occasionally be yellow on CRPL but apparently only at peak breeding season). White of throat does not extend over gape, which contradicts a field mark commonly noted for SEPL, but the lack of white over the gape is common in Macaulay photos of juvenile SEPL so perhaps that's a better cue for adults. The bird called several times; some calls were ambiguously flat and weak (SEPL can evidently sound like CRPL) but others were sharp and with the second note higher than the first as expected for SEPL.
