Observation details
I heard a flock of Killdeer flush close to Sandy island on the Georgia Straight side of the gap between Sandy island and Denman. When I turned round to see the flock the lead bird was a GP! Long winged and Buffy overall from 100m. It turned and had no black armpits, and despite efforts to see the legs beyond the tail I saw none. It landed for about 15 seconded and appeared to have a long primary projection. It then pulled a Houdini in me and disappeared behind boulders and I lost it for 20 minutes. I eventually found it and took photos. Despite the long looking primaries, I think it’s a PAGP. I’m having trouble double checking with Xeno-canto to go through GP calls as reception is not good today, but I thought it sounded like PAGP. Buffy tones to face medium. Bill maybe to heavy for American, appeared ‘long legged’ even compared to the PAGP I saw at Sidney spit last week, but who knows? Cheek spot visible for what it’s worth. Golden flecks appeared to appear throughout the mantle, but limited. I’ll likely submit this as a PAGP as soon as I can confirm that single call I recorded on my phone. Call at 3 seconds on audio file.
