Observation details
4 finches in a tree in Savannah area. I heard an unfamiliar bird sing that was very faint. I look up in the tree to notice a rosy bird that seemed chunky. At first I thought it was a rose breasted grosbeak juvenile with the sun just hitting it to make it look pinker. After taking photos with my telescopic lens I realized it was a Purple finch. It looked nothing like a house finch. The wing were raspberry. No black or white wing bars. I played a purple finch call and 2 of the finches flew away. But the breeding Male was curious and came closer. The female stayed up high. See photos
