Observation details
***rare. On August 30th around 6:30 I was shown a photo of a juvenile Brown Pelican that our neighbor's son (Dylan Plantz) had taken at 7:30 pm on Friday, August 28th while fishing near the Dark Island Shoals. My parents and I went out in our boat to try to re-find it but couldn't. The next day, August 31st, I was scanning the river with my scope and saw the pelican flying about and feeding in the middle of the channel. We raced out there again and found it roosting on the upstream island of the Dark Island Shoals (44.465041, -75.803792). As I was photographing, it flushed along with the cormorants and flew across the border into Canada to Griswold Island. This appears to be a first-cycle yearling. Quite lost.
