Observation details
Like dunlin with white rump. Dull sandy rufous wash to head and breast. Bright white beneath. Long slightly curved bill. About twice as large as nearby western sandpiper and close to nearby killdeer in size. Photos. Will post tonight. Had been chased off by a peregrine falcon when I left but hopefully will stick around. I had suspected this was a curlew sandpiper from a distance and was going to move closer for photos but with the help of the falcon I was able to get diagnostic images of the birds white rump when flushed.
