Observation details
First I've seen. At Campbell Cove it flew overhead quite low and close, then flitted about on the south end of the pond before disappearing among the trees and bushes. Too dark and cloudy to get decent photos, but have posted the ones I took anyway. Looked to be Kestrel-sized or smaller with comparatively long wings. Suspected it was a Nighthawk immediately from the way it was flying around (like a swift rather than a raptor-- despite its "hawk-ish" appearance). Longish tail with noticeable barring, blunt head, pale stripe on wings. From what photos I could get, the stripe looks fairly close to the tips, so am guessing Lesser. No apparent thick white band on tail, so female? It first appeared a few minutes after sunset.
