Observation details
Likely up to 6 birds in this flock. When I first arrived, found these very small terns with active ("batlike") wing beats. Nonbreeding adult plumage except 1 where I saw some color in the bill. Small tern, much smaller than nearby foresters. Light-colored wings than black tern, and smaller. Top of wings darker out toward end. Some had much whiter on back half of top of wings - perhaps just coming out of breeding plumage, or 1st winter birds. White forehead with black through eye and behind eye.
