Observation details
Super bird for me. I only see them when traveling to breeding grounds.Maybe the second or third in 30 years on my property. This bird perched on the highest snag available and stayed for at least 10 minutes. I was able to get my telescope and examine him at 60 power at 20 meters. for about five or six minutes. he was perched with his back to me and the two white patches on his back we’re very visible. He then turned around and his vest was very noticeable. I played two of his calls and though he didn’t call back he reacted by turning his head trying to locate the other bird. I have some terrible Photos and I don’t know how to post them on eBird. I’m surprised that the flycatcher came up as rare. If you go to eBird and put in olive sided flycatcher for August of this year you will see reports that clearly indicate that they have left their breeding grounds and initiated migration.
