Observation details
This is the first time I've seen this particular goose. The orange bill and yellow-orangish leg colors and the markings on the neck seem quite consistent with numerous photos of the (presumed) Graylag x Canada goose I saw today. Exact parentage would likely take blood samples to be known for sure. This bird was extremely alert as I approached the flock. When a Bald Eagle flew over and spooked all the geese into immediate panicked flight, this individual took off immediately and flew strongly with the flock and landed in the pond just south of the main pond on the east side of the Hillsboro Public Library. This leads me to think that it is quite wild and moves from place to place with this flock, rather than staying in one place. I considered the possibility it might be a Pink-footed x Canada Goose hybrid, but after examining the bill on this bird, it lacks the black markings on the tip and at the base of the bill that should show on that particular cross, which led me back to the domestic goose x Canada Goose hybrid.
