Observation details
At 3:20 P.M. Wednesday, August 19, 2020 Bob Chapman reported a Black Tern near Arroyo Grande Creek mouth. At 6:50 P.M. Tom Slater reported seeing presumedly the same bird at Oso Flaco Lake. The bird was first observed this morning at 7:20 foraging insects as well as fish off the westside off the boardwalk. This juvenile Black Tern had a slivery gray with a pale brown wash upperparts and whitish underparts, a dark smudge in front of wings on sides of breast and black skullcap and ear mark. Viewing conditions were smokey due to wildfires and made viewing of colors challenging.
