Observation details
Seen from levee via scope as it stood on a small island at the large back basin pond. This bird was near several Forster's Terns. Seemed slightly smaller than the nearby Forster's Terns(FOTE). As I watched, it turned so I could view it from the front to seen the face well, and then turned to the side. Appeared to be an immature bird, as it had a clear dark carpal bar. The bill seemed darkish, and similar is size to nearby FOTE bills. The forehead was white, and the head from the crown and down the nape was blackish. It did not have the dark eye spots as seen on some nearby FOTE. The back and wings were a pale gray. The shoulders, breast and belly were white. The legs appeared to be reddish. The bird turned facing away from me, so these are the photos I provided. I then had to travel to a different location to try and find it again, without success, as it and all of the Forster's Terns had flown away. Distant, cropped photos to be posted. One photo has a FOTE on left and the COTE is on the right, with gulls in the foreground.
