Observation details
This is only the second time I've ever seen a Least Bittern chick. Small tan/brown heron, very streaked breast, no distinct coloration of an adult bird. I was able to locate the bird five times during my visit, but it disappeared quickly into the vegetation. It would hold still, sky pointing, and be almost undiscernible in the growth. I had several excellent looks, but getting off the bins and on the camera didn't go so well. The one flight shot I got I turned around to get it and was facing right into the sun. Better than nothing.
