Observation details
First observation at 0825. 5 counted on property. *Unusual sighting here - the third in three years! Type 2 crossbills based on the flight calls (recording). The expected type given all of the ponderosa pine habitat nearby in the Scratchgravel Hills. Presumably a family group? Seen perching in dead alders over the reach 3 ponds. Two birds landed on a cut bank next to one of the ponds and remained there for several minutes, probing into the bank with their bills. Possibly gathering grit for digestion, or salt? Detections (number 15-minute intervals in which the species was detected): 3 on property.
