Observation details
Seven photos are provided herewith of this species on this occasion. The rose throat patch is clearly shown in most of them, plus plenty of other details identifying the species and its age. In the age regard, this individual, whom I judge to have been in first-winter plumage, retained much of the juvenile warm, buffy/rufous plumage indicating its youth, as well as one photo of its back in which one can see the molt-related transition from the warm-colored juvenal plumage to the gray back plumage of the adult. The flight photo allows a view of the underwing, and the light shining through shows the buffy/rufous coloration on the flight feathers. More than one of the photos documents the residual (youth-related) buffy/rufous color in the upperwing coverts. Others of these photos provide an extensive review of the heavily dark-feathered crown of this species, both when the crown feathers have been erected and when they have been flattened onto the crown. In regard to behavior, our field notes recorded that this bird tried "a few times" to access peanut butter at the feeder for that avian-beloved food. It turned away, though, seeing the several Great Kiskadees already enjoying the treat there and monopolizing the feeder. It did not attempt to challenged any one of them, and they were very persistent at the feeder.
