Observation details
1st Cuttyhunk Island record for this species 0610 First bird seen 1/2 mile out to NW coming from the direction of Gooseberry. Adult bird. Contrasting very dark upper parts and gleaming white under parts visible from far out. White forehead and throat divided by a black line from eye to bill. Black bill. Appeared longer winged than COTE mainly due to the species flatter wing profile and stronger flight pattern. The bird came right to the end of the island and actually crossed over the last part of the Southern most point before heading out to sea. No feeding only traveling. A number of definitive photos. 0625 Second bird seen passing behind my location on bluff and over land moving South with a COTE. Bird seen well at close range with the same plumage characteristics as the first bird but spotted to late to get photos. Adult
