Observation details
Nw orientation, approx 20 feet high. Very interesting behaviour to report. Adult male seen perched on Saguaro arm level with nesting hole. Female seen entering hole twice. There were several times where a nearby palo verde tree had several individuals that all appeared to be female sitting and preening vigorously. They were being a very social with each other seemed very friendly. They were all preening while making quiet chattering sounds to each other. Our theory, was that these females were taking a break from sitting on nests all day. Stretching and preening after being in cavities. Multiple Martins seen flying around the saguaro area, the adult male that was perched on saguaro arm would sing excitedly when he saw a specific female, or so it seemed. At least twice, it did look like the adult male would go over to the tree where the females were sitting and try to get her attention to bring her back to the saguaro. Adult male also seen right at the end of our visit aggressively chasing a House Finch and engaging in lengthy aerial battle.
