Observation details
The first photo is a rear shot showing characteristic markings of the topside from the rear, including well outlined feathers, a typical calidridine tail (dark centered but bordered by white), and a characteristic bill shape (much like the shape of the Least Sandpiper bill, but evincing lighter color near its base, unlike the always-dark bill of Least Sandpiper). Photo 2 shows two of this species. The slender, attenuated shape of these birds is, though, not that of Least Sandpiper, whose rear appears far less slender and attenuated, in part because its primary tips barely extend past its tertials.
