Observation details
This is a minimum estimate. About 12+ juveniles seen in the forest tree tops of an island in the west end of the lake. This location visible from the public access point in the summer village. From a distance a white bird was observed in the tree tops and at first was assumed to be the reported egret. By paddling straight to the location, it soon became apparent that a dozen or more large brown birds were in the area that the ‘white bird’ departed as I paddled closer. While paddling across the lake, three adult night herons were spotted heading in or away from the ‘heronry’ (note, actual nests were not visible in the dense foliage). Eventually an adult bird perched amongst the juveniles and its very white breast from a frontal view looked like basically a white bird. Egret not present at this location.
