Observation details
First photos looks like adult male BWTE with 6 ducklings. Poor photos included, best I could get due to distance/light... No other ducks seen on lake. Several birders (3-4) agreed BWTE but another 2-3 suggest female ring-necked duck, which seems more likely (especially as male with ducklings would be odd if BWTE). Further discussion suggests two-tone flanks, high head and long neck, possible white eye ring and light patch on cheek with light patch at bill base + possible grey cheek visible in some photos suggest female RNDU. Changing to RNDU pending further notice. A good mystery! Thanks to all who provided helpful discussion.
