Observation details
What a beautiful bird. Male. Was off by itself, quite aways from the two large rafts of other ducks, diving and surfacing relatively near to the north/east observation deck. Small black tip to bill followed by larger light bubblegum pink spot itself followed by black bill up to the thin white bill border of the head. Head had a white top crown, like an American Wigeon, that continued up and around down to the upper back. There was a light brown area encircling the eye portion which made up most of the lower portion of the head coloration. A darker black spot beneath this area was against the white neck. The white of the neck continued to the upper chest where it was bordered by black coloration that then ran back on the top to the end of the bird. Large white undertail covert area underneath. Beautiful gray geometric back plumage design overlaying the black back. With black rear end and long black tail, forked it appeared.
